Adult Group Classes

“I’ve always wanted to learn to play...”

 

At Queen Bee, our teachers help you achieve your musical goals in a relaxed and fun environment. Group classes introduce you to new skills and new friends, without being cost prohibitive.

Classes meet weekly for 55 or 75 minutes in four sessions each year:

  • Winter Session, 2025: January 6 - March 13

  • Spring Session, 2025: March 31 - May 22

  • Summer Session, 2025: June 17-July 23

  • Fall Session, 2025: Dates TBA

​

Each class is also be livestreamed and recorded for individuals who are not able to attend in person.​​

Bluegrass Guitar

with Josh Martin

Tuesdays, 6-6:55pm, June 17-July 22. $126

Josh leads the class through classic bluegrass guitar licks, and breaks down how to improvise in a jam session. Pre-requisites: Guitar 3 or knowing your open chords.

Bluegrass Mandolin

with Josh Martin

Wednesdays, 6-6:55pm, June 18-July 23. $126

Josh leads the class through bluegrass mandolin techniques including double stops, chop chords, and breaking down how to improvise in a jam session. Pre-requisites: Mandolin 3 or being comfortable on all of your open chords and a few fiddle tunes.

Fiddle Tunes Slow Jam Ensemble - open to all instruments!

with Karina Wilson and Brian Nelson

Wednesdays, 7-8:15pm, June 18-July 23. $142

Learn about jam etiquette and play instrumental or "fiddle tune" standards in Irish, bluegrass or old-time traditions. This class open to any player who has a handful of fiddle tunes under their belt, but haven't ventured much into a public jam session, and/or any player looking to practice chord progressions by ear for tunes in a group setting.

Fretboard Geography for Bass

with Josh Martin

Wednesdays, 7-7:55pm, June 25-July 30. $126

Unlock the music theory behind your fretboard and find walking bass lines, and get comfortable navigating chord changes. This class is best for folks who already playing bass. For people brand new to the instrument, we recommend private lessons.

New Mexico Polkas for Melody Players

with Karina Wilson

Wednesdays, 6-6:55pm, June 25-July 23. $105

This 5-week course breaks down a different polka from New Mexico with Karina Wilson of Lone Piñon. Tunes will be taught by ear, and any person comfortable playing melody on their instrument is welcome.

Rhythm Basics: Understanding Subdivisions

with Brian Nelson

Wednesdays, 7-7:55pm, June 18-July 23. $126

Learn how to read, count and play rhythms on your instrument. This class will focus on quarter note, eighth note, and sixteenth note subdivisions, with an emphasis on playing multiple rhythmic parts in a group. All instruments and levels welcome.

Songs for Summer: Beginning Ensemble

with Brian Nelson and Lindsay Taylor

Tuesdays, 6-6:55pm, June 17-July 22. $126

Just keep strummin'! This ensemble class is open to any player or singer who has completed a level 1, 2 or 3 class on their instrument, or know your open chords in the keys of G, D, and A. We'll be building your song repertoire and learning to play with other instruments.

Songs for Summer: Intermediate Ensemble

with Brian Nelson and Josh Martin

Tuesdays, 7-8:15pm, June 17-July 22. $142.

This intermediate-level ensemble class is open to any player or singer who has completed a level 3, 4 or ensemble class, and want to deepen your knowledge on more challenging chord shapes and even improvising on your instrument. We'll be building your song repertoire with classics from the rock, country, and folk genres.
