Bill Monroe Mandolin Part 2 Workshop
with Josh Martin

Multi-instrumentalist Josh Martin leads the workshop attendees through a deep dive into Bill Monroe’s style and analyze what made Monroe’s mandolin playing so revolutionary in country and bluegrass music through right-hand picking techniques, double stops, cross-picking, tremolo, arpeggio shapes, chucking, hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Bring a mandolin, the pick of your choice (recommended: ‘extra heavy’, 1.0mm or greater or Dawg-style mandolin picks for Monroe’s style), a notebook and all your questions about classic bluegrass mandolin picking.

Recommended pre-requisites: knowing your open chords and a few closed chord shapes, and be familiar with reading tablature or melody. Bill Monroe Style Mandolin Part 1 is recommended, but not required.

DADGAD Guitar Workshop

Explore the world of different tunings on guitar! Around the world, guitarists use alternate tunings and chord shapes. DADGAD, a D tuning, is most commonly found in Irish music.
Tony Burling of Santa Fe's Irish band Seanchaí breaks down how to tune your guitar and the new chord shapes that you'll need to use in DADGAD.

Recommended pre-requisites: know your open chords, and how to read a chord diagram.
Cancellation and Refund Policies
All Queen Bee workshops need a minimum of three students to run. If a class does not meet that requirement, the workshops will be canceled, and registered students will be offered the following choices:

a credit for private lessons at the amount of their tuition

the registration fee can be transferred to a fully tax-deductible donation, or
-
a refund.
Credits must be used within the calendar year; they expire on December 31. Two-person workshops may run as a semi-private lesson, at the discretion of Queen Bee administration and the teacher.
